Screening and Counseling Service Programs
The Foundation's goal is to screen populations who are at-risk for sickle cell conditions by detecting abnormal hemoglobin such as Sickle Cell Anemia and Sickle Beta-Thalassemia. These tests are made available upon request to the Foundation.
The Foundation also provides counseling to anyone identified with abnormal hemoglobin. Through our partnerships with local health departments, social service agencies, private physicians and hospitals, we are the recipients of welcomed referrals.
Additionally, the purpose of the counseling component is to provide information regarding the genetic inheritance of sickle hemoglobins and other variants in order for individuals to make informed decisions about their lives. All client files and any communications are strictly confidential.
